Exam Malpractice: Ethiopia Shuts Down Internet in Whole Country

It seems Ethiopia has zero tolerance for exam leaks and malpractices. While others would just search students or seize their phones, but this country - Ethiopia - has taken it too far by shutting down internet in a bid to curb exam cheating.

Over 1.2 million 10th graders and an additional 300,000+ 12th-grade Ethiopian students, on Tuesday, were preparing to sit for exams. On Wednesday, the country’s internet was shut down to prevent exam leaks. However, this isn’t surprising because it is the second year that such an action has been taken.

Since Ethiopia has one of the lowest internet and mobile connectivity rates in the world (Quartz), this development may not help matter. Infact, less than 4% of the population has internet access, so shutting it down is like giving a fish a bicycle.
