Facebook Video Chat Device: A Necessity For All Homes

Facebook is now going beyond photo sharing and chatting. The company is now spreading its wings into hardware and other ventures with the alledged dedicated video chat device for home use.

The Facebook video chat device will accompany a 13 and 15 inches diagonal touchscreen which might run on Android OS. It will feature a wide-angle camera and AI-powered microphones and speakers. Aligning with CEO Zuckerberg's mission of bringing people closer together through Facebook, the large screen and smart camera technology are reported to help far flung people feel like they're in the same room.

The video chat device is still in testing at the moment and is expected to be used mostly in the living room. For holding the display, one prototype with a thin vertical stand is present. For this product, Facebook is testing softwares that lets the camera automatically scan for people in its range and lock onto them.

The company also has a 360-degree camera in the making for the device. However, this is unlikely to be ready in time for the initial launch. Facebook video chat device could be officially unveiled during next spring's F8 developer conference, and it's expected to cost a few hundred dollars when it eventually becomes available.
