Shocking Reason Why There Are No iPhone 9, BB9 And Windows 9

Come to think of it, why is number 9 not included in so many smartphone OEMs model? Apple unveiled iPhone 8 and iPhone 10 (iPhone X), but there's no iPhone 9. Recall that Blackberry also skipped BB9 and launched BB10. What about Microsoft, there is Windows 10, but have your seen windows 9?

So what is wrong with the number 9, and why is it been neglected by electronic and mobile phone makers? According to reports, nine (9) is not the only number that is being skipped by OEMs, and this is because of some superstitious believes of some people in certain regions.

For a brand to sell her products across multiple regions, one rule is to understand the cultures and superstitions of the people there. In this 21st century, you might be expecting superstitions to have gone extinct, but so many people hold on to such believes. Remember “Friday the 13th?" The number 13 is considered a number for bad luck in many places in the West, and because of this, you are not likely to see Windows 13 or an iPhone 13 in the future.

Also, in countries like China, Korea and Japan, the number 4 is synonymous to the word “death." For this, brands active in those countries tend to avoid it - like nokia did, - as no one wants to buy death!

As for number 9, it is a curse word in China, which also means suffering, agony or torture in Japanese. China is one part of the world where big brands cannot afford to play with. So, to make sales in that region, they have to skip that number. This is marketing aferall, perception is everything.

Though, some brands pulls the bull by the horn to push a product associated with a supertitious unlucky/negative number. Sometimes, they come out successful, but other times, they do not. Now you know why number 9 and few other numbers are been neglected by OEMs.
