Kwesé TV and MTN Nigeria Enters Partnership, Will it Work?

Newly launched Pay television—Kwesé TV and Nigeria's number one largest telco network operator—MTN NG has formed a partnership to increase the market presence and share of Kwesé TV in Nigeria. The partnership includes a distribution agreement with MTN Nigeria, which will allow Kwesé TV decoders and dishes be purchased in MTN stores nationwide.

MTN and Kwese TV partnership

Kwesé TV, which offers over 65 channels (including sports), is a Zimbabwean based pay-TV service owned by Strive Masiyiwa, under Econet Media. They're currently available in other African countries like Rwanda, Ghana, Zambia and now Nigeria. On the other hand, MTN NG is the most widely spread telecommunication provider in Nigeria with over 47 million active subscribers, so, both parties will certainly benefit from this partnership.

In addition, the partnership will see MTN subscribers enjoy exclusive video data bundle service in the New Year, as they'll be enrolled in Kwesé network's Mobile Video platform. This will lead to the increment of the latter's premium mobile video products consumer base in the country, thus, reducing that of industry leaders—DStv and GOtv.

It's worth noting that MTN group—the parent company/owners of MTN Nigeria are from South Africa, so it might be quite challenging for them to go up against Multichoice—the owners of DStv and GOtv—who're also from SA.

Anyways, let the show begin! see full details of Kwesé TV here (channels, subscription, bouquet, decoder price, etc). By the way, TStv promised to roll roll-out her decoders before Christmas; 6 more days remaining.
