MTN Loses 11.5 Million Subscribers, and I'm not Surprised

Active mobile subscription from the four major network operators in Nigeria —MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9Mobile—has dropped from 154.7 million in January to 140.4 million in October, 2017. This shows that a total number of 14.3 million active GSM subscribers were lost within the space of 10 months.

MTN, Airtel, Glo, 9mobile

According to the latest report by the Nigerian Communications Commission(NCC), MTN and 9Mobile were the biggest losers, and this is actually back to back loss for 9Mobile. The former lost a whooping 11,528,125 subscribers, while the latter had 3,400,894 users short. This lead to a potential voice revenue loss of about 27.32 billion for both telecos within the 10 months period under review.

On the other hand, Airtel and Globacom were smiling home as they increased their subscribers base with 422,925 and 190,031 new users respectively. All these took place between January to October.

Porting activities for the Telecom operators also crashed from 33,504 which was recorded in September to 19,419 in the month of October. In terms of outgoing porting, a total of 9,706 activities were noted. 9mobile still maintained their devastating form with 3,088 porting to other networks; MTN lost 2,777 subscribers; Globacom couldn't keep 2,409 users, and 1,432 for Airtel.

Since MTN don't have the chance to steal customers' airtime again, they started increasing price for all their services and products, thinking they're doing us 😂.
