OnePlus Cancels Android 8.0 Oreo Global Update for OnePlus 5

This is kind of a mixture of bad and good news. Couple of days ago, late December 2017 to be precise, OnePlus 5 welcomed OxygenOS 5.0 (based on Android Oreo) via an OTA update. But that was not for long, as the Chinese manufacturer halted the global update yesterday.

Before now, some OnePlus 5 users were already enjoying Android 8.0 features which includes: Picture-in-Picture mode that enables owners of the device watch videos while running background apps at the same time. Android Instant Apps with which you can run an app from your browser without installation. And Autofill, a feature that completes blank fields using hints from what you filled in similar forms before.

The update, which started on the 22nd of December, brings an improved camera UI to the OnePlus 5. It also accompanies a new beauty effect for Portrait Mode and enhanced optimizations for Wi-Fi and Battery Saver. But the global update has been canceled and all these features are gone because OnePlus reportedly sighted a bug on Oxygen 5.0.

To make amends, OnePlus disclosed they're working on Oxygen 5.0.1 with a partial release of the update on the line to be pushed out soon.
