Android 9.0 ‘Pistachio Ice Cream’ Feature Leaks and Enhancements

Google, according to insider sources, has set out a number of objectives for Android 9.0 P, which includes making the software more appealing through a visual overhaul of the OS. The tech giant is reportedly trying to bring over iOS users to Android with its recent support for smartphones with notch just like the iPhone X, which is part of the overhaul.

As of the time of this writing, Essential Phone is the only Android device that has a notch— a small yet easily noticeable cutout in the upper section of its screen to fit a front-facing camera. The manufacturers had to tailor the software so that notifications and status information are not obstructed by the notch. Rumors are also going round that Chinese OEM—Huawei is working on a device with a notch similar to the one on the iPhone X.

Android 9.0 P is expected to sport support for new designs and devices with multiple and flexible displays, like ZTE Axon M and the rumored Samsung Galaxy foldable smartphone. There will be Battery life eenhancements.

Google Assistant will also play an important role in the Android experience, as Google is aiming to allow developers include it into their apps next year. Apple has since allowed developers to integrate Siri into their apps using SiriKit, released alongside iOS 10.

We hope to get more info on Android 9.0 P at this year's Google I/O from the 8th of May to the 10th. A developer's preview will likely come before that. This new system will probably be released alongside the new Pixel smartphones.
