A new update is now available for WhatsApp which is currently working on Windows Phone, and Android beta testers to improve group features. This update which started rolling out yesterday allows group owners to add description to their groups, stating its objectives and what it's all about.
The group description can be publicly viewed by all members, displayed at the the top of the Group Info Section. Additionally, if you're sharing the group invite link to some participants to join, the description will appear so they can know what is done in there before joining.
For new member who got added to a group either by the admin or by using the invite link, a pinned box will be displayed, showing him/her the description of the group. The pinned description will automatically disappear once the user leaves the chat and it won’t appear again.
Just like the group name, all participants of the group can also edit the group description, but WhatsApp provided administrators with an option to restrict this function which will be available once the Group super power feature is released.
This WhatsApp group description suggests that the Group super powers roll-out is getting closer. It's also worth noting that privacy option will available in future.
