The highly anticipated voice and video calling feature might be added to Instagram sooner rather than later. All other facebook-owned social networks have these features, and once introduced to this popular photo/video sharing platform, its functionality will therefore increase.
A number of icons and files were spotted after an APK teardown with the names "voice call" and "video call" respectively, which hints at the coming of these features. Instagram's biggest competitor—Snapchat has already adopted voice and video calls, so the social media should cut the delay and implement the option as well.
Once the voice and video call feature goes live, it'll also be available on Instagram Direct – the social media's private messaging app. Meanwhile, this is not the first time we hear about Instagram's plan to have calls option, rumors circulated sometimes ago that the company was already testing the feature.
We're certain it'll be implemented for real this time around, as these teardown have, so far, been accurate. It's also worth noting that Instagram is right behind Facebook as the second most popular social media in the U.S.
