WhatsApp Co-Founder Advices People to Delete Facebook now!

Jan Koum and Brian Acton are co-founders of WhatsApp before Facebook acquired the popular instant messenger for $19 billion in 2014. While Koum kept on leading the company, Acton announced his retirement late last year to kick-off his own foundation. In a new level of public blacklash, the billionaire recently posted on twitter, telling his followers to delete Facebook.

His tweet which reads, “it is time. #deletefacebook" dealt a heavy blow to FB, because WhatsApp is owned by Facebook and he was once part of the company. But he is not the only one calling on people to delete the social network. The "delete Facebook" movement is growing due to the massive data extortion scandal in which data firm Cambridge Analytica harvested information on 50 million Facebook users without their knowledge.

Facebook is in a big mess now, as the public and even politicians in the United States and the United Kingdom has queried the unscrupulous activities going round its data privacy. This has also taken turn on the company's finances with a $50 billion loss in market value this week.

Acton is currently working with a secure messaging app—Signal, whose foundation he joined after a $50 million investment. His calls to delete Facebook might not be the best option, as the social media giant still has other apps like WhatsApp, Instagram where users' data can be harvested from.
