After lots and lots of leaked specs and videos, Chinese manufacturer—Xiaomi has finally launched the long awaited Mi MIX 2S. It stands as the first smartphone from China to feature the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset, and an upgrade to last year's Mi Mix 2. When compared to the Apple iPhone X, the company claims that Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S snaps better pictures, holds charge much longer, and gives video gamers a better experience than the former.
The device sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display with 2160 × 1080 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a ceramic body with an aluminium frame, and a fingerprint sensor on the back. For image duties, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s features a dual camera setup of Sony IMX363 12MP rear camera sensor, equipped with 1.4µm pixel size, OIS, Dual Pixel auto focus; while the other is for AI portraits, boasting of AI scene recognition that can detect 25 categories and 206 kinds of scenes.
For selfies and video chat, the Mi Mix 2S has 5MP front camera, shifted to the bottom right corner, so you have to turn the handset upside-down to take a pic properly. The camera also has Face Unlock functionality, and support for AI portrait selfies with real-time background blur.
Like I earlier stated, under the hood is a 2.8GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 845 processor, paired with 8GB of RAM plus 256GB native storage, or another variant that comes with 6GB RAM plus 64/128GB inbuilt storage. The phone runs latest runs Android 8.1 Oreo, with support for Google ARCore and AI voice assistant. It uses a 3400mAh battery featuring Quick Charge 3.0 for fast charging and wireless charging.
As for Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S price and availability, the 6GB RAM+64GB storage model will cost $527 (₦189,000), the 6GB+128GB storage combo is $575 (₦207,000) and $639 (₦203,000) for the 8GB+256 storage variant. They will likely hit the market by April, i.e. the release date.
