Blackberry has not yet launched any smartphone this year, but the Canadian company, in partnership with Optiemus Infracom Ltd, is set to introduce two new handsets, dubbed BlackBerry Ghost and BlackBerry Ghost Pro. Couple of image renders allegedly showing the upcoming phones leaked out over the past two months, revealing a near bezel-less display.
If this is true, then BlackBerry Ghost and the Ghost Pro will be the first devices under the brand to feature an edge-to-edge screen and an aspect ratio of 18:9. However, we can't tell where the fingerprint scanner will be placed, as neither render showed it. Probably, the biometric reader will be on the back of the phone, or surprisingly embedded under the display.
Though Optiemus never said they were producing the Ghost and Ghost Pro, but the company's executive director, Hardip Singh, disclosed in an interview that Optiemus will churn out a whole range of BlackBerry models with the release of two handsets first, starting in this Q2. Well, these two handsets could be the BlackBerry Ghost and BlackBerry Ghost Pro. The phones marketing will be targetted at consumers in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal, and will sport the DTEK security feature and BlackBerry Hub.
Optiemus hopes to command a 10%-12% market share in the price segments at which it will sell its BlackBerry handsets. The company could also produce a line of BlackBerry branded accessories including a wireless charger. It appears that BlackBerry Athena—a sequel to the BlackBerry KEYone, could also be unveiled at anytime soon.
