So far, Samsung Galaxy S9, the Razer Phone and Moto Z2 Play has been considered as some of the best smartphones for gaming, but Xiaomi is set to dethrone them all with the launch of “Xiaomi Black Shark.”
Xiaomi Black Shark is the latest beast launched in the Chinese company's gaming smartphone sub-brand. It sports a 6-inch display at 2160x1080 FHD+ resolution, with a pixel density of 403PPI and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The phone has an aluminum body, with the shinny Black Shark logo in neon green color on the rear panel which is X-shaped for better grip during gaming and to ensure there are no signal issues when the phone is held vertically or horizontally.
In terms of performance, Xiaomi Black Shark comes in two variants of 6GB RAM plus 64GB inbuilt storage, and 8GB RAM plus 128GB of storage - both models are with no MicroSD card slot. Under the hood is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 which which clocks at the speed of 2.8GHz. For image duties, the device features a dual camera setup at the back, consisting of a main 12MP and a secondary 20MP lens, both equipped with dual-tone LED flash and “Dark Light Enhancement Technology” support for capturing lovely moments in low-light. There is a 20-megapixel front-facing shooter for selfie.
You can enjoy the best gaming experience as the phone comes with a liquid cooling system to prevent over-heating (down to 8° C) even when you're playing a game. Additionally, Xiaomi Black Shark is powered by a 4000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology, but with no wireless charging functionality. Meanwhile, it has dual-speaker paired with an excellent microphone to enhance the audio quality.
Coming pre-loaded is Android 8.1 Oreo based on JOY UI—a customized overlay that shares some of its apps with Xiaomi ‘s MIUI. Xiaomi Black Shark has a dedicated image processing chip from Pixel, offering intelligent motion compensation technology, image enhancement, dark scene detail processing, for smooth video quality when gaming. You can attach a Black Shark Gamepad that is similar to what Nintendo did with the Switch. It has a 340 mAh battery on its own and can connect via Bluetooth - it'll be given to the first 50,000 buyers for free, otherwise it is priced at 179 Yuan ($29). The device has a special “Shark” button on the left side to activate performance mode.
As for the pricing and availability, Xiaomi Black Shark will first hit the market in China, shipping in Polar Night and Sky Gray color options. The gaming smartphone price starts at 2,999 Chinese Yuan for the 6GB RAM variant (which is around $477 in the US and ₦177,000 naira in Nigeria), while the model with 8GB RAM will cost 3,499 Yuan ($557 and ₦200,000).
