Was Your Facebook Data Used by Cambridge Analytica? Find out here

Last month, Facebook was trapped in a data scandal which saw millions of users Facebook profiles collected without their permission by a consulting firm called Cambridge Analytica. A Russian-American researcher was the first to get the users' data and he wasn't supposed to share it with anyone. Facebook signed a 2011 consent decree that prevented the company from using personal data without getting permission from its owner. But it seems the popular social network has now breached this agreement, and as a result, they've been under fire since then.

Here's how to find out if your Facebook profile was used by Cambridge Analytica

A lot of individuals and firms have deleted the app, even former Facebook employee and WhatsApp Co-Founder, Brian Acton urged people to delete facebook. Co-founder and FB CEO Mark Zuckerberg will testify in front of both the Senate and the House starting tomorrow, and a 24 hour boycott of Facebook and its associated apps will start Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, Facebook has been rolling out multiple changes and improvements to prevent the re-occurence of something like this. In addition, the company will alert users if their personal data was among the 87 million profiles (if not more than that) used by Cambridge Analytica. To check if your account is among the number, simply look out for a notification at the top of your Facebook newsfeed beginning from today.

If you see a notice similar to the image at right (above) which reads “Facebook has banned a site called "This Is Your Digital Life" because it improperly shared your Facebook info with Cambridge Analytica,” then your was among those obtained by Cambridge Associates. You can tap on a link that will show you how you're affected. While other Facebook users whose data weren't collected will see a notification like the one at the left side, showing new feature that will allow them to control which apps have access to their personal data.

To cap it off, Facebook also banned other data firms like CubeYou and AggregateIQ for misusing data they received from personality quizzes. The latter is currently under investigation by the Canadian government.
