How to Activate MTN Night Plan

Just when we thought that we could hold on to at least one good thing in Nigeria, we have lost it again. Why would MTN do such a thing? The telco giant just slashed the data volume allocation to its Pulse Night Data Plan.

Starting from the 16th of August, you will now have to pay N25 for 125MB and N50 for N500MB which is usable within the hours of 12am and 4am.

Previously as we are all aware, you would get ~~500MB for N25 and 1GB for N50~~, but that is not the case anymore. The other change to this night plan is that you now renew your subscription whenever you exhaust it at night.

You can still subscribe by dialing *406# after which you follow the prompt, or send Night to 131. But firstly, you must be on MTN Pulse before activating this midnight plan, so dial *406# and reply with 1 to migrate.

Sometimes, some subscribers complain that they can't browse with it, or it stops before using up the allocated data. So, to avoid any issues, it's advisable to activate this mtn 125mb for n25 or 500mb for N50 night plan from 12:10am and above.

How to Activate Airtel Night Plan

Airtel night plan came less than two months after MTN introduced theirs. It offers better 500MB for N25 and a bigger N200 for 1.5gb data, both valid between 12am – 5am. Please note that you must opt-in to Airtel SmartTrybe before being able to subscribe to this plan, so dial *312# and reply with 1 to migrate.

The Zambian government looks to be following in the steps of the Ugandan's by imposing a daily tax charge on the use on internet call services such as Whatsapp call and Skype so that telecommunication companies will not lose revenue.

They fear that a lot of people do not use the traditional calls anymore and as such the telecommunication industry is threatened.

The order to charge N10(0.03$) daily tariff on call has been approved by the cabinet of Zambia. The country also fears that instead of creating jobs in the country, internet call is creating wealth for Americans while the people in the country suffer.

“The cabinet has approved an executive order that would see the introduction of N10 ($0.03) daily tariff charged on internet calls.”-Zambian government.

Remember we reported that MTN, Glo, Airtel and some other network providers in Nigeria are putting pressure on NCC to block over-the-top (OTT) services like WhatsApp, IMO, Skype, etc., because they're losing revenue from phone calls. Instead of totally blocking these platforms, my fear is that NCC might as well impose daily tax for their usage.

Social media tax is now a trend in this continent. First Uganda (paying 20 naira/200 shillings), now Zambia (paying N10), how long before these social media tax spread to us and other countries in Africa?

With the surge in price, MTN data will not be sold at the normal price anymore as there is bound to be an increase.

-> 2GB data from N1200, will now be N1600
-> 3GB will rise to N2400, from ~~N1800~~
-> 5GB will increase to about N3800.

Meanwhile, towards the ending of last year, MTN said they'll increase the SME data prices and they even sent out messages to all data vendors about the new pricing, but they never increased it. We hope same thing happens this time around.
