ISIS Twitter Accounts Are Being Hacked, What's Going On?

Some days ago, a large number of Twitter account belonging to the Islamic State militant group (ISIS) were hijacked and replaced with gay pride messages and links to gay pornography.

Hijacking of the pro-ISIS Twitter accounts first began (months before) with a hacker affiliated with Anonymous WauchulaGhost. In that time, he — in addition to hackers Ebony and Yeti — have taken control of over 200 Twitter accounts belonging to ISIS supporters. Many of these, however, have since been removed by Twitter as part of its on-going mission to remove propaganda accounts.


Following the shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando , the hackers used the hijacked accounts to replace militant propaganda messages and images with rainbow flags, pro-LGBT messages and links to same-sex pornography. They want to be clear, however, they weren’t using graphic porn and the intent isn’t to offend Muslims. Instead, their “actions are directed at Jihadist extremists"

WauchulaGhost told Newsweek:
“I did it for the lives lost in Orlando Daesh [ISIS] have been spreading and praising the attack, so I thought I would defend those that were lost. The taking of innocent lives will not be tolerated.”
