It is reported that Globacom wants to acquire Etisalat NG, and this is an amazing rumour, maybe to me, for some reasons best for me and the affected etisalat company.

Etisalat earlier had issues with 12 banks in Nigeria wherby the banks almost took over its managements, but NCC came to their rescue. Last month also, data from NCC revealed that MTN has the largest data subscribers of 60.3 million, followed by Glo 37.3 million subscribers and Airtel 34.6 million. While etisalat is the lowest with 18Million subscribers data base, which is not a surprise since it offers just 1GB for N1000.
You might be wondering where I'm heading to, but with the above data, Globacom can give Airtel a big gap and as well pursue MTN for the first position of largest data subscribers base by acquiring etisalat subscribers (37.3M+18M subscribers).
Revenue generated from data is suddenly beginning to outweigh voice and SMS hence consolidation is expected. Also remember that Etisalat has a competitive advantage in its data services and a possible merge with Globacom would enable the company to offer cheaper data services.

This acquisition might increases Glo's average revenue per user. This will be made possible since Glo currently offers the cheapest data plans in the country per GB, them owning Etisalat’s 18m subs instantly increases it.
Glo acquiring Etisalat might cause chaos in the camp of Ntel, spectranet, Smile, etc. They will do everything possible to kick against the deal because it will give Globacom undue advantage since Globacom has dedicated fibre-optic infrastructure and afford to offer the cheapest data plans to her subscribers.
However, this merge could also lead to job loss from Etisalat since it is the smaller firm. As they'll be forced to drop some workers.
Remember, theirs an atom of truth in every rumors, let's keep our fingers crossed and stay tuned for more updates concerning Glo buying off etisalat. BTW, what's your opinion on this? Kindly share.
