Is this the end of Facebook Online Contests?

I'm sure you must be fed-up of seeing posts from Facebook friends pleading for engagement (likes, shares and comments). If yes, the company has disseminated a new policy that will completely demote and bury such spammy posts.

facebook engagement bait

Engagement bait are posts that drives users to interact with likes, shares, comments, and other actions. A good example is “if you're a Scorpio, LIKE this post.” Since the current Facebook News Feed algorithm rank posts with much engagements higher, this tactic seems to take advantage of it to reach more people.

Facebook has finally stepped in to curb this Sammy posts menace after receiving so many complaints from users. So, beginning from next week, the social media giant will start demoting individual posts from people and Pages that use engagement bait. For now, they are giving publishers time to stop their engagement baiting techniques and learn new writing skills before rolling out the changes.

The change will also be applicable to facebook pages, as the reach for their posts will experience a fatal drop, which will eventually affect the entire page itself. With this new policy, I'm afraid FB contests—where winners are selected depending on amount of engagement gathered—will gradually fade away.
