VLC 2.9 Beta Update Adds Chromecast Support for Android Users

VLC has added Chromecast support to its Android version thanks to the new beta 2.9 update. This same feature has been available in the iOS version of the popular media player since 2015. I wonder why it's just entering testing stage for Android now.

This feature will allow you to stream both local and internet content from your device running Android OS to your Chromecast. Since it is still in experimental stage, you might encounter some issues which includes problem with streaming from an internet source. However, streaming local content works fine.

You can access the Chromecast feature by tapping on the 'Cast' button (circled in red), then choose your device and get content from your small screen to your big one. VLC 2.9 beta also accompanied playlist files detection, Samsung DeX support, SD card files deletion and Chromebook.

Are you a participant in the testing program? If yes, head over to Google Play Store, otherwise, download the APK here to have a taste of these amazing features before they roll out to the public.
