Older Android Phones will Be DOOMED Once Android P Rolls out

With the release of iOS 11 last year, older devices like iPhones 5, 5c and iPad 4 got obsolete in the Apple ecosystem. Now, Google is planning the same for phones running Android 4.1 and below, as it will clear apps that aren't supporting the latest Android OS version from the Play Store.

This calls for all newly submitted apps to work with the latest Android versions, while the already available ones that fail to update could be kicked out for good. It will lead to high rate of cyber-crimes, data leaks and vulnerabilities; though, the phones will still work, but users won’t be able to download latest apps and security upgrades.

In the recent Android P Dev Preview, developers have found a new class which sets a minimum API version, and if this is not met by an app, the OS pops up a warning message which reads:
"This app was build for an older version of Android and may not work properly. Try checking for updates, or contact the developer."

Right now, the minimum API version set in Android P is 17, which is 4.2 Jelly Bean. However, we don't know if this will block apps from running or just remain as a warning in the final version of Android P. Anyways, Google's intention will be know as soon as Android P is complete.

So, to stay on the safe side, you need to upgrade to a more recent Android version.
