Google has previously launched Android One and Android Go which are products aimed for the emerging markets. In addition to this, the tech giant is now said to be working a new mid-range Pixel-branded smartphone, which will also be targeted at the price-conscious market segment.
As reported by Economic Times the handset will likely be launched in July or August this year. Google will also be going into large-scale marketing in a bid to expand distribution into general trade in India, senior industry executives claim. India is an important emerging markets target in the smartphone industry, and Apple and Samsung didn't waste time to establish their brand in the country.
Further details of Google's consumer products expansion plans in Trade Meets held in Malaysia, the UK and the US last month were disclosed by the company's executives. According to one of the retailers who had participated in the meets, “Google is excited about the expansion of the consumer products business in India with the advent of the cheap 4G internet led by Reliance Jio and other operators which it says will help to realise maximum potential of these products.”
Other Google products like Google Home smart speakers, premium laptop Pixelbook, and intelligent home automation will also be introduced in select price-sensitive markets, so as to expand the company's retail presence in the emerging markets.
