Facebook Rolls-Out Messenger 4K Photo Sharing Feature

In a bid to minimize data consumption and to improve users experience on any device type, popular instant messaging apps like Facebook, Telegram and WhatsApp delivers a compressed version of images you upload or send to someone. Tis is helpful in some areas, but it somehow reduces the quality of your image.

The good news now is Facebook Messenger has not only increased, but doubled the resolution of images to be uploaded on the platform. Before now, FB messenger was stock on 2K—or 2048 x 2048 pixels—resolution, but this latest update will now allow users to send photos at 4K or up to 4096 x 4096 pixels resolution.

Flagship smartphones like iPhone X, Pixel 2, and Samsung Galaxy S8 are adopting impressive camera specs like 12MP, whose highest dimension is between 4000 and 4048 pixels long. So, sending images on such devices will be received at full resolution by the recipient. Facebook further disclosed that the photos, even at high resolution, will be sent just as quickly as before.

iPhone and Android users in the US, Canada, France, Australia, UK, Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea are now receiving Facebook's messenger update for 4K higher resolution image. Hopefully, it'll get to other countries soon.
