LG G7 may Feature an Iris Scanner and 5G Network Functionality

South Korean OEM—LG is working on its flagship phone, dubbed 'LG G7,' which is set to rival the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S9. The G7 is yet to be announced, but speculations suggests it will be released at February MWC 2018 in Barcelona.

The specifications of LG G7 are still in the dark, but odds are high that the smartphone won't sport a modular design, as that phase is dead. Metal and glass would be great. The company posted a photo of a 77-inch flexible and transparent OLED display, and this hinted that the G7 might feature an OLED display type with 18:9 aspect ratio.

The fingerprint sensor may likely be switched from the back of the phone to the bottom of the screen. More phone have started coming out with this style, so it'll be normal if LG G7 follows suit. I suppose there's nothing much in terms of photography, as we're expecting another dual-camera setup and decent core specs.

In terms of performance, we're certain that the G7 will be powered by Qualcomm's new 7nm Snapdragon 845 chip. Thus, users will enjoy a secured processing unit (SPU) which the firm says offers "vault-like security" with the memory, microprocessor, crypto engine and random number generator all sitting on its own power island.

According to Samsung, the 845 processor is 30 percent more efficient than the 835 for gaming, video and AR/VR. Courtesy of the G7's octa-core Kryo 385 CPU with four 2.8GHz high-power cores and four 1.8GHz low power cores, there'll be a massive boost in the performance and battery life.

The new dashing X20 LTE modem from Qualcomm is also found in LG G7, offering over 1Gbps CAT 18 speeds, and an enhanced Spectra 280 image signal processor. Video recording quality has also been increased and various AI improvements have been added.

For smooth multitasking, LG G7 will feature 64GB inbuilt storage with MicroSD slot to expand memory up to 256GB. Info on the RAM is still sketchy.

The Big Rumours - Iris Scanner and 5G Network

LG G7 Iris Scanner
As disclosed by an unearthed patent by LG, works on an advanced iris scanner is in-progress for the LG G7. It goes beyond unlocking the phone to protecting sensitive data in it.

According to GSMArena, "the iris scanner checks the biometric characteristics of the eye and sets up with a light screen and a dark screen, since the iris changes in size, depending on how much light gets to it. Then the sensor will check what are you looking at and if you are the owner of the phone, the sensitive app will be available for opening."

Infrared light works with iris scanner, but the Korean company has created a camera that can switch from infrared to a standard one. The LG G7 might, because of this, come with fewer cameras and sensors on the front, and a tiny bezel on top.

LG G7 5G Network
The biggest rumour so far about LG G7 is its reported 5G functionality which will provide super-fast data speeds. Reports from Business Korea claims the phone will support 5G modems which poses as a good selling point, but this will be overlooked for now because 5G network is not even available in UK talk less of Nigeria.
