Fix Google Two-Factor Authenticator Incorrect Codes on Android & iOS

All online services, including Google are encouraging its users to setup two-step verification, otherwise called Two Factor Authentication; as it improves protection of their account and data. With it, you're required to input your password and an authentication codes which will be sent to your mobile device. So, anyone trying to break into your account will find it difficult.

However, Google Authenticator can leave you frustrated sometimes when it displays incorrect codes. The common root cause of this "Incorrect Code" errors can be traced to the time on your Google Authenticator app not being properly synced. Kindly follow the instructions below to fix this issue:

How to Fix Two-Factor Authenticator Incorrect Codes

On Android

  1. Go to the Main Menu on the Google Authenticator app and choose Settings
  2. Select Time correction for codes and click Sync now

You'll get a confirmation prompt that the time has been successfully synced. You can now use your verification code to login.

On iOS (Apple iPhone)

  1. Navigate to the iPhone Settings App and select General
  2. Hit Date & Time and enable Set Automatically
  3. If its already enabled, kindly disable it, then wait a few seconds and re-enable
