Facebook to Release new Voice Clip Status Update Feature

We already have text and video status on Facebook, now, the popular social media is working on Voice Clips as a status update option. This feature, which is currently being tested in India with a limited number of users, will help users speak their mind without a typing barrier.

The recent trend on Facebook is now posting of news article links which is contrary to the company's bid for users to share more unique personal content. Record shows that there have been consecutive decline in Original content broadcasting on Facebook by 21 percent, and 15 percent as of mid-2016. Where most Original contents are now shared on facebook-owned Instagram and its rival Snapchat.

According to Facebook's spokesperson: “We are always working to help people share and connect with their friends and family on Facebook in ways that are authentic to them. Voice Clips gives people a new medium through which to express themselves.”

Voice clips will allow users to share compelling, deeply personal content. This feature will relieve people the stress of editing long texts and also bailout those with poor smartphone camera for video status. Meanwhile, Facebook already offers private Voice Clip sharing through Messenger.

This voice status feature can be accessed by taping “Add Voice Clip” from the status update composer menu where other options like photo uploads, location checkins, etc., can be found. While recording, a waveform of your voice will be displayed, and you can talk for as long as you want - which depends on your device storage, without a specific limit from Facebook.

You have the option to preview the clip, and share it to the News Feed where friends can hit play to listen while watching the waveform animation. However, the voice status can't be edited, and listeners can’t close Facebook and keep hearing the clip, since technically, the clip registers as a video.

India—which has 22 well-known languages—is the country piloting this feature. If the test is successful, Voice Clips could be released to users in other countries.
