Since we learnt that HTC would release only one flagship phone this year, the Taiwan-based company has been taking its time to perfect works on HTC U12+ so it can compete with other top-tiers like Samsung's Galaxy S9+ and Huawei’s P20 Pro. Rumours suggests a mid-May announcement for the smartphone. And in addition, we've got several hands-on images which appears to reveal the final design of the upcoming HTC U12 Plus.

Looking at the photos, it's obvious that the alleged HTC U12+ will sport an 18:9 display which is currently trending. However, it also appears that the phone won't feature a notch on top of that display, but a reduced bottom and top bezels; the latter which will accommodate the in-ear speaker and a dual-camera selfie setup. At the back, HTC opted for a mirror-like glass finish and there is another dual-camera setup on the panel which is equipped with a dual-tone LED flash and what appears to be a laser autofocus system. A rear-mounted fingerprint scanner is also present. Furthermore, the power button and two volume rockers can be seen on the right side of the HTC U12+, while the left side houses the slot for the SIM card tray which will likely double as a microSD card slot.
In terms of specification, the HTC U12+ is rumored to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 under the hood, and coupled with 6GB of RAM plus possibly 128GB of storage. Athough, the company will probably introduce other storage variants. The device will run Android Oreo straight from the box.
Beginning from this year, we should be expecting fewer smartphones from HTC in the hope of improving the company's profitability, because they lost over $570 million in 2017. It is also reported that the brand will skip the regular HTC U12 to launch just the U12+, a move which suggests that the number of HTC flagship phones to be released yearly will also be limited.
