Instagram Copies Snapchat Again With New Nametag Feature

Right from inception, Instagram has been well-known for doling out new features, but most of them are cloned from their rival—Snapchat. The biggest shock came in August, when Instagram copied Snapchat's iconic "Story" format, and it didn't even end there. Now, the popular photo/video sharing platform is working on a feature called Nametags which is very similar to Snapchat's Snapcode that was introduced back in January 2015.

Nametags allows an Instagram user to create a custom tag using a pattern of emoji, an AR based selfie or a simple page with various color options. Once the facebook-owned company releases this feature, users will be able to create a tag by pressing the Nametags button in their profile.

With it, you'll also be able to add someone to follow by simply scanning that person's Nametag using the Instagram camera. So, no need to cram and type usernames, and no request is necessary. Instagram subscribers should find it easier to build an audience with Nametags.

Watch the 22 seconds video above to see how Instagram nametag works. The feature is still under tests, and there have been no word as to when it'll roll out globally.
