The Korean company recalled the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 twice and deactivated all units, then in July last year, they launched the Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition (FE) using some parts from Galaxy Note 7 units that were returned, and some from those that were never sold. The handset's chipset got boosted from Snapdragon 820 mobile platform to Snapdragon 821 SoC, while the battery—which was the main cause of the explosions—got bumped down from 3500mAh to a lower capacity 3200mAh cell.
Samsung Galaxy Note Fan Edition was launched running Android 7.1.1 Nougat pre-loaded, but according to a report published today, the device is being updated to Android Oreo.
