Tecno Mobile launched two new amazing smartphones yesterday - 5th of April, dubbed Tecno Camon X and Tecno Camon X Pro. The latter has upgraded and better features than the former; the main difference between the two phones is the RAM, storage and the selfie camera offerings. This handset is a camera centric one, standing as the successor to last year's Camon CX - which is also a camera champion. The camera is one of the selling points, as it features a 20 megapixel front-facing shooter with dual flash for selfies, and a 16MP sensor is present at the back, which is well equipped with a quad-ring flash.
The selfie camera has Portrait mode, Beauty mode and Panorama features. Tecno Camon X comes with the latest generation of dual ISP image processor which allows two processors work simultaneously, resulting to a better processing efficiency. Also, the dark/night state and noise reduction has been improved on the Camon X compared to the Camon CX.
Face ID
Face ID is not new to this brand, a lot of the Tecno-branded devices like the Camon C7 and C9 have accompanied this feature which they codenamed ‘Retina Scanner.’ However, it was greatly criticized back then because it was annoyingly slow and couldn’t work in low light. But now, the Face ID is back on Tecno Camon X with multiple enhancements that makes it fast and perfectly working in low/no light conditions.
Design and Display
Tecno Camon X sports a large 6.0 inches HD+ display at 1440 × 720 screen resolution, with the same Netflix standard 18:9 aspect ratio as with this year's Tecno Camon CM. This means the phone has very thin bezels, measuring at 158.6 × 75.8 × 7.8mm with a visual thickness of 5.2mm.
It comes in a beautiful polycarbonate body and Corning Gorilla Glass to protect the screen against scratches and cracks. The mono speaker is at the bottom of the device - first time on a Tecno phone; the 3.5mm earphone jack has been moved down, the volume rocker, sim tray (which includes both sims and SD Card) and the power button are all on the right side, while the fingerprint sensor remains in it's usual position at the back.
Software, Processor & Memory
As expected, Tecno Camon X is powered by a Mediatek processor, precisely an Octa-core MT6763 Helio P23 chipset that clocks at 2.0GHz. This is a 20% improvement in performance compared to the Camon CX.
In terms of Memory, the smartphone comes with 3GB of RAM; giving assurance of smooth multitasking, plus 16GB ROM and up to 128GB MicroSD card support for storing large files and games. Tecno Camon X runs latest Android 8.1 Oreo (first tecno phone to do so), based on HiOS 3.3 custom UI for more efficient operations.
Battery, Connectivity & Others
To keep the lights on, Tecno Camon X uses a Non-Removable Li-Ion 3750mAh battery with fast charging system, and with the optimized HiOS UI, the battery life should be amazing. It is a dual SIM device, but only accepts Nano-SIM cards. There is standard Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, FM, 3G and 4G. Sensors present include E-Compass, Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor and G-Sensor.
