HMD Global has launched a new smartphone called Nokia 6.1, standing as an upgrade to last year's Nokia 6 with improved features and specs. The mid-range phone was announced few months ago as Nokia 6 (2018), but now officially unveiled this week in the US with another name.

The Nokia 6.1 sports a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display with the same old 16:9 aspect ratio on an aluminum body. In terms of performance, the new handset is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor, coupled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage space, which can further be expanded via microSD card.
For image duties, Nokia 6.1 features an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, while there is a vertically placed 16MP Zeiss-branded camera with 4K video recording on the back, and a fingerprint scanner just below it. The device runs Android 8 Oreo and is part of Google's Android One program, which makes it eligible to receive timely software updates for at least 2 years from now.
To keep the lights on, a 3,000 mAh battery with fast charging support is available, and the phone is fully compatible only with GSM/LTE. The Nokia 6.1 will be released for purchase by Sunday, May 6, with a price tag of $269 (on Amazon and BestBuy) equivalent to ₦96800.
