Google announced the second Android P beta release yesterday, where we found out that the tech giant has quietly added a handful of new emojis in the update which has been very long-anticipated since its announcement back in February as part of Unicode 11.
It's good that Google is featuring the new set for the first time on the latest Android P Beta release. There are precisely 157 new emojis, and the highlight of this addition is the support for certain gender-neutral options.
As part of this new update, if a gender isn’t expressly specified, the OS will default to displaying gender-inclusive options. This means that when searching for emoji users will now have to keep an eye out for the gender-neutral option, with gender-specific offerings, as well as different skin tones, being available in the sub-menu. Meanwhile, this feature is currently applicable to the couple and family emojis. Furthermore, the latest Android beta now carries support for the long-awaited redheads, which allows users to combine the new hair color with different genders and skin tones. And in addition, curly or white hair are now also available, as well as certain bald ones.
The Unicode 11 also packs other interesting emojis, which includes a birthday hat or an exploding head, a lying face emoji with a very long nose, and a drooling face option. Also, various emojis now comes with small tweaks, such as the salad that now includes no egg, the cricket emoji that is now actually a cricket instead of a grasshopper, and even the dagger that has gained some sparkles.
Out of the 157 new emojis, it's obvious that the two new gender-neutral offerings will have the biggest impact.
