YouTube to add Messaging Feature With Renamed Tabs

In recent times, it seems all mobile apps are now competing–in one way or the other–with themselves. Just as WhatsApp and Telegram are huges competitors, same with Instagram and SnapChat, as well as Facebook which recently launched a live streaming game hub to take on Twitch. YouTube is now pushing options outside of just video for users by introducing an improved messaging features.

YouTube tests renamed tabs focused on messaging

So many areas of the popular video sharing platform are now being modified, as the "Activity" tab for YouTube is being tested with the new name of "Inbox", and within that tab, what had been labeled as "Shared" might be renamed to "Messages". In addition, it appears that YouTube is changing "Contacts" to "Friends" in the test. These names are pretty self explanatory, more descriptive and easier to understand than before, apparently.

These renamed tabs are still in testing phases and it continues YouTube's agenda to add more social features to the service. Starting with improving their in-app video sharing ability, they added a feature for channels to be able to send text or image updates to followers, and now another messaging feature is on its way.
