Terrible Bug! Samsung Messaging app Sends Users' Pictures to Random People

Exploding batteries aside, Samsung users have a new problem. Their devices now send pictures to random contacts without permission or notice. Creepy right?

Many users on the Reddit social media platform first noticed this bug thanks to the response of those who received the unsolicited photos. Since the software did not leave a trace on the file transfer, only the surprised recipients raised alarms to this issue. Your whole gallery, including private pictures might even be sent to a random contact without you knowing, and odds are high that Samsung will be sued in the coming days for breach of privacy.

Although the cause is not known yet, it is most likely because of the recent update to the default messaging app for Samsung, Samsung Message. The update was made so as to improve the abilities of the messaging app by switching from SMS protocol to Rich Communication Services which is more efficient. There must be a miscommunication between the app and this new protocol which is causing the bug.

New Samsung devices are more likely to have these problems compared to the older ones. Before Samsung engineers make a fix, you can do something on your own:
  1. In settings, block the Samsung Messages app from having access to storage or media. Doing this though will also not allow you to send pictures willingly.
  2. Don’t use the Samsung Messages app all together. Switch your default texting app to a different one.

Hopefully, in the next few days, the South Korean company will release a new software update to fix this terrible bug.
