How To Move Your iPhone Contacts

  1. On the device that you are transferring data from, open the Settings Image titled Iphonesettingsappicon.png. It's a gray app with gears on it that usually shows up on the home screen. A Wi-Fi network must be established for both devices. To connect, select a network from the list under "Choose a network..." by tapping Wi-Fi near the top of the Settings menu and dragging it to the "On" (green) position. If prompted, provide a password.
  2. Click on your Apple ID. Your name and image, if any, can be found in this section, which can be found at the top of the menu. Tap Sign in to (Your Device) if you are not already logged in, enter your Apple ID and password, and then tap Sign In. You may not need to complete this step if you are using an older iOS version.
  3. Click iCloud. It's in the second menu section.
  4. Change the "Contacts" setting to "On." It will turn green near the top of the "APPS USING ICLOUD" section.
  5. Tap iCloud Backup after scrolling down. It's near the bottom of the section titled "APPS USING ICLOUD ."iCloud Backup" should be green if it isn't already. Slide it to the "On" position.
  6. Now, tap Back Up. The contacts on your current device will be backed up to iCloud.
  7. Open the Iphonesettingsappicon.png image in Settings on the new iPhone. It's a gray app with gears on it that usually shows up on your home screen.
  8. Click on your Apple ID. Your name and image, if any, can be found in this section, which can be found at the top of the menu.
  9. Tap Sign in to (Your Device) if you are not already logged in, enter your Apple ID and password, and then tap Sign In. You may not need to complete this step if you are using an older iOS version.
  10. Click iCloud. It's in the second menu section.
  11. Change the "Contacts" setting to "On." In the "APPS USING ICLOUD" section, it's near the top.
  12. Hold down the Home key. It's the round button below the screen on your iPhone. 
  13. Keep in touch. It's a gray app with letter tabs on the right side and a silhouette that's darker gray.
  14. Hold while swiping down. Lift your finger from the middle of the screen and slowly swipe down and hold until you see a spinning "refresh" icon above the contacts list. Your new iPhone should now have access to your old iPhone's contacts.
