OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Cannot Stream HD Videos From Popular apps

With the seamless fun of HD video content steaming, it's so unfortunate that users of the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will be left out. Whatthefunk, a member of OnePlus forum disclosed that neither of the aforementioned devices will be able to stream certain DRM protected content in HD from popular apps: Google Play Movies, Netflix, and Amazon Video, because they lack the required Widevine Level 1 Certification; they only support Widevine Level 3.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T both features high-end specifications such as a 6-inch AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio, Snapdragon 835 chipset, and 6GB or 8GB of RAM. Their inability to stream videos in high definition from popular video apps is just so shameful, though, it is not in any way connected with the specs of each model.

Meanwhile, this issue does not affect YouTube, as users can stream HD videos from that platform. It also appears that both devices can certainly provide users with HD video streaming.
"It's come to my attention (as my 5T is being shipped) that the 5T, as well as other OnePlus devices, do not have the Widevine L1 Certification required to be able to watch HD content from DRM protected services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Google Play Movies (YouTube is not affected).

I would like to know why a $500 phone is not capable of fully utilizing these very popular services and if there are any plans to rectify this clearly ridiculous issue. I am massively surprised this has not been brought up in reviews/not had a bigger fuss made about as this is completely unacceptable for a brand that is now well established!" said whatthefunk; in OnePlus forum

In regards to this, a spokeman at OnePlus gave no reason as to why both models of the phone lacked support for Level 1 certification, but provided assurance that the necessary Widevine Level 1 certification will be added in a future update for the OnePlus 5 and 5T. Though, time frame for the update wasn't disclosed either.
