While 4G LTE is poor or completely unavailable in so many states in Nigeria, we have started hearing news of the imminent arrival of 5G network. To aid this, smartphone manufacturers have also commenced work on devices that will support this super-fast 5th generation wireless systems, with Huawei leading the pack with one which is set to be released in Q3 of 2019.
Back in January, MTN NG carried out Africa's-first trial for 5G technology and its applications (in partnership with ericsson), and the result was amazing as it reached over 20Gbps with less than 5ms latency in the 5G trial. The telco giant was given a temporary licence for 800MHz of spectrum in the 15GHz band to conduct its 5G trials.
Another big news now is that MTN will be conducting TECHFEST 2018 where it plans to further introduce the MTN 5G network. Tech Fest 2018 is a two days event that would also provide relevant product education, future technology projections, tech devices and gadgets, as well as MTN’s tech offerings and new technologies to the attendees of the event.
It will be held live at Landmark Centre in Lagos from the 15th to 16th of May 2018. Don't forget to register to witness the glory of the upcoming MTN 5G network service. As for 4G, your countdown begins.
