Have you experienced any moment where you'll subscribe to a data bundle, then PHCN will cut off electricity or the transformer in your area will explode? Thus your device will be forced to go off and you won't enjoy your data before it expires. Well, The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has stepped in with a new mandate to all Nigerian Telcoms, which will serve as a relieve to similar instances like these.
NCC has given an official order to all telecom operators in the country; MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9Mobile, to provide extra 14 days grace period once a subscriber's monthly data bundle expires without him/her using all the data. For instance, if you subscribe for one month data plan and you couldn't use it up before the 30 / 31 days validity, you will get anextra 14 days grace period to use up the data.
Professor Umar Danbata, the Executive Vice Chairman NCC, said at the Consumers Conversation Forum held in Minna, Niger State in quote:
Though, this directives from the Telcoms industry regulators (NCC), is not yet effective as of the time of this publication. But once it is, internet subscribers across the country who can't rollover their unused data will now have a total of 44 days to enjoy browsing, chatting and downloading.
My honest view on this is 'nobody is complaining about validity' since the data don't normally last up to 30 days before it finishes. Instead of NCC extending data validity period, is it bad if they increase the data cap itself?
