Essential Phone Skips Android 8.0 Oreo for Android 8.1

Android 8.1 Oreo beta is now available for the Essential Phone. As confirmed by the US company in January, the flagship handset will skip Android 8.0 and will be updated directly to Android 8.1 Oreo, where users who participated in the beta builds of Android 8.0 are already receiving the first beta build of this latest OS update OTA (over the air).

Otherwise, you can download the file from Essential's website and flash it manually on your smartphone to have a taste of Android 8.1 Oreo before it rolls out to the general public.

The update which weighs about 500MB accompanies a number of changelog added to the Essential Phone. They include a smart text selection, picture-in-picture, instant apps, faster startup and app sign-in. Also, the update contains the February security patch, dynamic Calendar and Clock icons, as well as slow scrolling jitter fix.

Before installing the Android 8.1 Oreo beta, make sure you have enough storage, fully charged battery and Wi-Fi connectivity. Hopefully, the version of the update will be released in a future date.
