Here is ExpensiveWall, another new and dangerous Malware which is currently affecting more than 21.1Million Android devices. According to reports, this malware was found in apps from Google Playstore again.
Thanks to researchers at Check Point, ExpensiveWall has been revealed, but it has already affected about 50 applications on Google Play, which have been downloaded between 1 million and 4.2 million times before they were removed.
The makers of this malware are quite inteligent, as they packed the ExpensiveWall inside wallpaper apps, which allowed it to escape Google Play's built-in anti-malware protections. "Lovely wall paper" is one of the infected apps, so for now, stay away from those categories of applications.
ExpensiveWall Modus Operandi
The ExpensiveWall malware packed inside an android app, will ask users for permissions, such as SMS and internet access. If granted, the malware will start sending premium SMS messages and register users for other paid services that don't exist without the user's knowledge. Though granting apps permissions are normal but absolutely abnormal for a wall paper to be asking users for permission for sms or internet access.
Protection Tips
Most apps from unknown sources are deadly, and are the carrier of these malwares. So, install trusted apps that has been available for at least one year with good reviews and high number of downloads.
Also, do not depend only on good reviews as a criteria for marking an app safe, because LeakerLocker malware once used fake and manipulated reviews to decieve people into downloading virus-infected apps. Stay safe guys and thoroughly scrutinize any app before hitting the download button!
